Summerville, S.C.– KION North America was recently awarded the KION Group Safety Championship for 2017. Gordon Riske, CEO of KION Group, presented the award to KION North America employees during an open house event on May 24.

The KION Safety Championship was introduced in 2014 to improve health, safety and environment awareness and performance throughout the group. Each year, 47 business segments within the worldwide KION organization compete for the coveted title. This is KION North America’s second time winning since the award's inception.

"Safety at work is a top priority for all employees at KION North America and part of our corporate culture," said Daniel Schlegel, vice president of operations. "I'm excited and proud that our team has been recognized by the KION Group as being the safest operation of 2017. We will celebrate this accomplishment, reflect and strive to make further improvements going forward."

KION North America was also recognized by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce for outstanding workplace safety accomplishments during 2017.

The award is based on the lost workday case rate-a statistic tracked by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). In 2017, KION North America completed 437,105 total hours worked with only one lost time case.

KION North America was recognized along with more than 300 other South Carolina companies including prominent manufacturers The Boeing Company of South Carolina, Bridgestone Aiken PSR and Honda of South Carolina.
